Memory Monday - Our Crazy Month of April

April 2, 2010

Owen was 7months old (3 months adjusted)
still in the NICU
3 sugeries down
5 serious illnesses
many, many ups and downs
April was a very weird month in the NICU for us. Owen was no longer "critical" but still had constant little ups and downs (which still continue today). I was still telling myself that he wasn't coming home until June (said that from the moment they told us he had survived NEC because I didn't want to get my hopes up). However, the doctors were always talking about what would happen when he got to go home. I was in disbelief. I was trying to remind myself that Owen was a different case than most. However, the Neonatologist that was on rotation was a good one! He was litening to Owen's nurses and I when we said that Owen couldn't be pushed and he needed to go slow. Slow was working! Owen was our little turle :)

My facebook post from April 2, 2010

" Thinking of Owens future a lot. Talked with the GI specialist today. I have so many questions and I want to know what to look for, what comes next, and what I can expect but they don't know. Every gut baby is different. When I ask a question the answer is, "Wait and see" blah blah blah . . . more on this later
P.s. Owen will not be coming home as soon as we thought. He is not gaining weight at all and not able to absorb like he should. So, he will probably be in the hospital for another month."

Slow and steady wins the race Owen!
