Isaiah Arrives!

Well, of course, we have to be just a little complicated. As many of you already know, I was scheduled to have a c-section Monday morning, Aug 30th at 9a.m. It seemed that Isaiah had other plans lol. I was looking forward to having Sunday the 29th to prepare, clean things up around the house, and have one last night with Owen before going in for the c-section on Monday. However, around 4a.m. on Sunday I began to have regular contractions. They continued to get stronger and closer together. So, at about11a.m. I called the birth center just to see what they thought I should do. They told me that the contractions could be caused from being dehydrated. So, I was supposed to drink lots of water and eat something, then call them back in a couple hours. After those two hours, I was still having regular contractions that were just slightly farther apart then before. When I called back the nurse told me just to come in so they could check things out.

When I came in they put me on the monitor and checked my cervix. I was only 2cm dilated and I was having minor contractions. Luckily my regular doctor was on call for the weekend. The nurse said he was already coming in for another patient so he would come and see me when he was done with her. When he came to see me he told me that they would be admitting me and either doing the c-section that night, depending on how labor progresses, or at my scheduled time in the morning. Either way, I was in the hospital until Isaiah was born. He wanted to wait at least 6 hours from the time that I ate so it would have to be after 7 unless it was an emergency. For the next few hours my contractions grew longer and more intense but they didn't seem to do anything to my cervix. They weren't giving me anything for pain because I needed to tell them if the pain was getting worse. By 8p.m. I asked my nurse if I could get something just so I could go to sleep and be ready for the next morning. The doctor said that if he didn't do the c-section then that I would probably go into labor around 3a.m and he didn't want to have to do that. I was going to have the c-section that night instead of waiting until morning.
The nurses began to prepare me for surgery as Heath and I wrapped our minds around the fact that we were about to have our second baby boy!!! All preparations went smoothly and before you knew it I was in the OR. I was so nervous but that all went away once Heath was able to come in and sit by my head. It was such a different feeling then when we had Owen. Instead of sitting there worried about having a baby that would live, we were sitting there so excited to hear the baby when he came out. Before you knew it Isaiah was out and crying loud :)

Isaiah arrived on Aug 29th, 2010 at 9:13p.m. He weighed 9lbs 0.1oz and was 20.5in long. He looks just like Heath lol. We are very proud and excited to take him home! Here are some pics :)

Owen is ONE

Today Owen has been on this earth for ONE full year! We are so excited. We are so blessed to have him in our lives each and every day. We are parents who truly look at each day with him as a gift. We know that he really shouldn't be here today and we are so thankful to God that he is turning one today. Thank you all for your prayers for our little miracle and we pray he has many more happy years with us :)

38 weeks!! - only 1 week left!

Well, I can't believe we have made it this far. We are full term and more excited than ever to have a big, healthy baby ready to come home with us. We have been super busy with life and haven't thought too much about life with another baby. This week it is kind of hitting us. We put Isaiah's bassinet up in our room and we are starting to get all the newborn clothes out and together. We are having trouble finding places to put everything. This week will be full of planning and organizing.
I am getting a little nervous about having a c-section and then the recovery part of it. When I had Owen I didn't really have time to think about it. It was simple - go in, they tell me we have to have a c-section, and then we did it. It was a no brainer and happened so fast I didn't have time to be nervous. This time around I have time to think about everything they are going to do and it makes me cringe. I get nervous with needles and I will be going into surgery lol. I am such a wimp. When I go into the hospital my mom will be taking care of Owen. She is taking 3 weeks off to help me with him as I heal and adjust to having two babies. I am nervous that Owen will forget about me when I am in the hospital. I won't be home taking care of his every need for 3 days. I am so thankful for my mom. She is the only one I trust to watch him because he has so much going on and she will have to be giving him his medications and things like that.
The other night Heath and I were talking and I got so excited when I realized he will get to cut the umbilical cord! I said to him, "Hey, you will get to make a belly button this time!" thinking he would be excited. I was wrong haha. His eyes got so big and he looked really nervous. I just laughed at him.
As for Owen, he is doing great!!!! He had a doctor appointment last thursday and he is back up to 17 lbs. Before he had whooping cough he weighed 17.6 lbs and he lost a little over 2 lbs after getting sick. We are so happy that he is feeling better and gaining weight again. He is growing up so fast! He is rolling over more and more and is trying to crawl. He is very unsuccessful but we are just happy he doesn't scream whenever he is on his tummy. He is also starting to scream - all the time - he screams and talks lol. He now loves to clap and claps whenever someone talks to him. He gets very excited. He is such a cutie! He can now lift himself to a standing position if he holds onto someones fingers. We are so proud of him. I can't believe that he will turn ONE on saturday!!!! We are so blessed to have him in our lives. We were told he wouldn't make it out of the hospital and now we get to celebrate his first year of life!!!!! (with many more years to come) What a little miracle :)

Happy 21st Birthday Heath!

Today is my husband's 21st birthday! Can you believe it? He is so excited about turning 21. It got me thinking about what we were doing and who we were this time last year. Wow. Lots to think about. 1 year ago today we were very different people. We were just little kids not knowing what the next year would bring. 11 days later our son was born 4months early and we were taken for a ride. God knew what we needed to learn and just how we were going to learn it. We have grown in the Lord, as individuals, and as a couple so much in the past year. I am so proud of the Man Heath has become. He is so proud of his family and works very hard to support us.

Thank you for all that you do for your family. Watching you each day with Owen brings joy to my life. We have been through a lot in the past year and I am so proud of how we have turned it into a positive learning experience. Every day is a challenge but you keep me strong and positive. You have taught me to take life as it comes and to stop worrying about what might happen in the future and I thank you for that. You are the most amazing husband anyone could ask for. Thank you for all your love and support. May God lead us each day closer to Him and closer to each other. I look forward to the many years ahead with you by my side. I love you very much.

NICU Reunion!!!!!

So, there wasn't actually a NICU reunion but it kinda was for us yesterday. Heath finally had a day off yesterday so we decided to take a trip to Modesto to go to the mall. We really needed to get out of the house and just spend some random time together . . . nothing planned, just doing whatever we felt like at the time. Well, we were just walking around the mall completing some odds and ends before Isaiah is born and we ran into Owen's first friend from the NICU! Her name is Anna. She was born in Modesto 1 day before Owen. They were placed next to each other the day after he was born. She was born at 1lb 4oz and was extremely tiny. Having her right next to Owen was somehow comforting. They were in the same boat and we were going to go through this journey together.

After 2 weeks we came into the room and Anna was gone. We had no idea what had happened and nobody could tell us. Well, a week after that Owen was transferred to Oakland Children's Hosptial. When we got there he went straight into surgery. The next day we came in to see Anna and her parents next to us! Well, Anna was sent home in december and now Owen and Anna are both home doing sooo well! We are blessed :)
